How to Apply for an Elementary Alternative School

The TDSB has many Elementary Alternative Schools. Each school has its own way of teaching. Families should learn about each school before applying.

Learn About the Schools

Before applying, take time to learn about each . Find out about their special teaching methods and what makes them different from regular schools. This will help you choose the best school for your child.

Information Sessions & Open Houses

• Schools will have information sessions or open houses from November to January.
• Visit the Elementary School Open Houses and Information Nights page to find dates and times for these sessions.
• If the school does not have an open house or information session, contact the school directly to ask for more information.

Important Notes

1. Primary Home Address
   • The address you use for your application must be the address where you live right now.
   • If you own property in Toronto but don’t live there, you cannot use that address for the application.
   • If your address is not updated in your current TDSB school records, make sure to contact the school, update your address and show them proof of where you live.
2. Class Size and Special Education Support
   • The class sizes and special education support in Elementary Alternative Schools are the same as regular TDSB schools. If your child has special needs, contact the school directly to discuss what support can be provided.
3. Disability Support
   • If your child has a physical disability, contact the school directly to make sure they can meet your child’s accessibility needs.
