Hindu Heritage Month - November 2025

Categories: News

The TDSB is proud to recognize Hindu Heritage Month during November each year since 2018. Hindu Heritage Month has also been formally recognized in Ontario since 2016 through the .

Hindu dharma is one of the oldest living religions, flourishing for over 10,000 years. November is an opportunity to celebrate its rich traditions, teachings, and values, and to recognize its global contributions to compassion, tolerance, and inclusion.

This year’s theme is Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu – May All Be Happy. This popular Hindu prayer for universal peace is deeply meaningful:

  • Lokah means “universe”
  • Samastah refers to all living beings and creation
  • Sukhino means “joy” or “happiness”
  • Bhavantu means “so be it, by the grace of the divine”

Throughout November, students across the TDSB will engage in educational opportunities to learn more about Hindu traditions. A special in-person celebration featuring student performances and guest speakers was held at Silver Springs Public School. Highlights from this event will be shared soon.

We are also excited to showcase the three winning entries from our Hindu Heritage Month Poster Contest, open to all students across the system. Congratulations to these talented artists whose creations are featured at the bottom of this post:

  • Myra – Grade 2, Rene Gordon Health and Wellness Academy
  • Shanaya – Grade 6, Pierre Laporte Middle School
  • Chethana, Vineesha & Sharavi – Grade 8, Woodbine Middle School
