Kensington CS Students Mark Earth Day with Community Cleanup

Categories: News

On April 22, students, staff and parent volunteers at Kensington Community School joined schools across the city, country and around the world in marking Earth Day with a hands-on commitment to caring for their environment.

As part of the City’s Clean Toronto Together School Day activities, Kindergarten students worked alongside adults to help keep the school and surrounding community spaces litter-free. Equipped with gloves, grabbers and recycling bags, students took on the role of young environmental stewards for the morning.

The cleanup focused on several areas around the school, including the orphaned laneway beside the building, the pollinator garden along Lippincott Street, the front plaza, and the main entrance. In just 20 minutes, the group collected three full bags of litter.

Through this simple but meaningful action, students experienced how small efforts can contribute to a cleaner, more welcoming public space. The activity supported learning about environmental responsibility while reinforcing pride in caring for their neighborhood.

Students spread out across grass in front of a school picking up litter. A group of students surround a staff member in a vest holding a clear garbage bag, students are placing garbage in the bag.
